I trust you and your families are enjoying your well-earned break and are recharged ready for Module 2. I would like to thank all of the students and parents/carers for your continued support in our safety precautionary measures since the beginning of the academic year. As we plan for the beginning of the next module, I feel it necessary to make the wearing of face covering/masks mandatory outside of classrooms and indoor communal areas for staff and students.
The Senior Leadership Team have been monitoring this area and up until the end of Module 1 have made the use of face coverings/masks for staff and students optional, however, over the half term break there has been an increase in national cases, surrounding boroughs have escalated to higher tiers and we are entering the cold/flu season.
As a result, from Monday 2 November staff and students will be required to wear face coverings outside of classrooms and indoor communal areas such as corridors and plazas. Face covering/masks are not compulsory in the classroom, although students may decide to wear them in lessons if they wish; as long as they are using them appropriately. This means that masks will be required inside academy buildings when students are not eating/drinking or in lessons.
I would therefore ask parents/carers to provide their children with at least one face covering/mask to wear in the academy each day. If it is a fabric covering/mask it should be cleaned each day. If it is a disposable face covering/mask a new mask should be provided each day. The face covering should be plain without any logos or images so as not to attract attention or distract students from the core business of learning.
As suggested at the start of the academic year, it would be advisable that students also have their own small bottle of hand sanitiser for ease of use. In addition to this, the academy has hand sanitisers in all classrooms and around the site.
During form time next week, students will be shown a video in relation to the wearing face coverings/masks.
All students are expected to follow all protective measures in place at WIlmington Academy and failure to comply with these instructions will result in sanctions in line with the Wilmington Academy Behaviour Policy.
If you feel that for any reason that your child would be exempt from wearing a face covering due to a medical issue or need help to provide your child with the required face covering/mask, please contact your child’s College Admin Office or email us via email@example.com
Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter, as you are aware our priority is to continue to review and implement measures to keep all staff and students on site as safe as possible.
