Following the Government’s decision to facilitate the National Lockdown and move education to remote learning we have been developing plans to streamline our operation in support of you and your child. We appreciate there are many key updates below, however, would appreciate your support in discussing them with your child over the weekend in preparation for Monday.
Virtual School Registration
From Monday 11 January your child will be required to register in the morning via the student portal and they must be logged in using their school account . This can be done at any time between 8.40am and 11:00am every day and is completed via Google Forms. Full instructions are contained in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUxuMTxmNMs. A courtesy call from your child’s pastoral team will be made should your child not register.
Survey: Student Device and Home Internet
Further to the Government’s announcement about the provision of laptops, we would like you to complete the following survey, so that we can identify students without a laptop, or the internet. Our aim is to try to utilise this service, should you meet the criteria. The deadline for this information is 5:00pm on Monday 11 January 2021.

Reporting of Student Engagement Scores
As you are aware, staff have been busy preparing lessons for your child and monitoring their engagement in home learning. Engagement is essential for your child to make progress.Staff will have provided a Digital Engagement Score (DES) by the end of every week and on Monday you will be able to access this score. Every Monday the previous week’s scores will be available to both you and your child via My Child at School (MCAS) by 12:00pm. Students are graded from 1 (being the least engaged) to 5 (being the most engaged). This will be broken down by subject, so that you can see how your child is progressing in every subject. A detailed explanation of each level is available on the distance learning website.
Parental and student webinar: ‘Live Google Suite’ support for Parents and students.
To support your child with the Google Suite of applications that is used across the Leigh Academies Trust, we are delighted to invite you to some ‘live’ lessons on Tuesday 12 January 2021. These will be hosted by Mr Schoeddert and will be facilitated on YouTube. Parents/carers will be able to dip in and out of the lessons and the session will be recorded and shared. Details are as follows:
- Session 1: 08:00 – 08:45 – Chromebook Chrome and Classroom Basics
We will cover how to set up your school Chromebook as well as how to complete the work you will be assigned in Google Classroom. You will have an opportunity to ask questions via a live chat.
- Session 2: 09:00 – 9:45 – Communications and Drop-in for Questions
We will cover how to email your teachers and send messages via Google Classroom. You will have a chance to ask questions via a live chat.
- Session 3: 14:00 – 14:45 – Google Classroom (repeat)
This session will cover the same Google Classroom topics as the morning session, you will have an opportunity to ask questions via a live chat.
Home Learning Website
A polite reminder that our home learning website contains all the information that your child needs whilst working from home, including a link to MyON and Accelerated Reader for year 7, 8 and 9. This means that students are able to read on their device whilst working at home. Please encourage your son/daughter to use this platform during Accelerated Reader Lessons.
