We hope you and your families have had a well rested summer holiday. We look forward to welcoming students back to the Academy, please see below the return/start dates for academic year 2021/22:
New Year 7 students start on Tuesday 31 August at 8.30am.
Year 7 students should be reminded that a packed lunch should be brought in with them for the first week whilst their biometric accounts are set up.
Year 10 and Year 11 students will return at 8:40am on Wednesday 1 September.
Year 8 and Year 9 students will return at 8:40am on Thursday 2 September.
The table below provides a summary of the changes that will come into effect from the first day of Module 1. Students have been informed of the changes before the holidays but we would appreciate it if you would remind your child of the following entry points:
- Key Stage 3 Entrance: Years 7, 8 and 9 will enter via the side gate.
- Key Stage 4 Entrance: Years 10 and 11 will enter via Reception.
- Key Stage 5 Entrance: Post 16 will enter via the Phoenix side gate.
Further to our earlier communications, student lateral flow testing will commence on the students return to the academy.
Period 1 on Wednesday and Thursday will both be tutor time. You will receive an email message on Friday 26 August stating your child’s allocated tutor room prior to the return to the academy.
Attendance & Punctuality
Please be reminded, in the event your child is too unwell to attend please contact the school on 01322 272111 and press the option for your child’s college, or email firstname.lastname@example.org and include your child’s full name, year group and college with a brief description of the reason for absence. This procedure should be followed every morning if your child is too unwell to attend. It is important that students are in school every day and this procedure must be followed to ensure that all absences are authorised.
The site opens from 8.15am for students. Students should arrive by 8.30am each day to allow plenty of time for them to get to their first lesson which starts at 8.40am. Students who are late to school without a valid reason will lose their social time that day. Students who also accumulate more than 20 minutes late in a week will also receive a Catch Up Club (CUC) detention.
Uniform & Equipment
Please take time over the next few days to ensure that your child has the correct uniform and equipment to minimise any potential disruption on their return. This includes wearing suitable shoes (trainers are not permitted). Mobile phones, earpods and smart watches are not permitted and will be confiscated if seen whilst on site. A parent/carer will need to collect these from the main reception. The full uniform and equipment expectations can be found on the academy website.
Key Changes to our Behaviour Policy
We are dedicated to ensuring that our Academy environment supports the learning and wellbeing of all students and staff. There have been some important changes to our Behaviour Policy which you can view on the academy website.
From 31 August – mobile phones must continue to be switched off and put into school bags on arrival (before walking on site) and not taken out until the students have left the academy buildings. The Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson has expressed how distracting mobile phones can be to learning and reinforced that mobiles should not be used in school. Any student who is found with their mobile phone will receive a CUC detention for 60 minutes on a Thursday and their mobile phone will be confiscated and retained in the main office until a parent/carer comes to collect it.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any further information at email@example.com
