Year 13 Results Day 2021

Dear Students,

In February 2021 as a result of the disruption caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Department for Education and the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulations (OfQual) announced that the Level 3 grades awarded to students this year would be based on Teacher Assessed Grades or TAGs. In April 2021, the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) released guidance to schools and colleges on how they should determine these grades. Our TAG Policy (which can be accessed via the following link: and this communication, takes full account of this guidance. 

Grade Rationale

To make sure that grades are fair across all schools and colleges nationally, exam boards will put all TAGs through a rigorous standardisation process: 

  • TAGs are to be formulated from a variety of sources including assessment results, mock assessments, coursework, controlled assessments, and in-class performance; 
  • Assessments are based on what students have been taught and determined ‘as late as possible’;
  • A robust quality assurance process has been applied and evidenced prior to submitting TAGs;
  • A strategy of blind marking was adopted for each student whereby names were substituted for student ID numbers during the marking and moderation process; 
  • Students have the right to appeal a decision (please see below).

It is important to note that schools and colleges were not permitted, by Ofqual’s conditional (GQAA3.5) , to share grades with students or parents and carers to protect the integrity of the process, through which teachers’ judgements are arrived at and to avoid teachers feeling under pressure to submit a grade that is not supported by the evidence. 

Collecting Your Results

Fantastic news! You are able to collect these examination results on Tuesday 10 August 2021Results can be collected from 8:30 am – 11:00 am. A destination questionnaire and Alumni form will need to be completed, with Post 16 entry interviews being conducted from 9:30 am onwards.  The destination questionnaire and Alumni form will be sent to you and can be completed prior to the 10 August 2021.

If you are unable to collect your results and wish your exam results to be posted home then you need to hand a stamped and addressed envelope to Mrs Daly (Examinations Officer) by the end of term, Wednesday 21 July.  If you would like a relative or friend to collect your results on your behalf or would prefer your results emailed home to you, then you must complete this Google Form:

Appealing Your Grade

As usual students will also be able to appeal their grades if they believe the process this summer was not followed correctly. The cost of all appeals must be paid by parents, the deadline for submitting an appeal is Friday 17 September 2021 and forms will be available on results day.  Any student who believes a grade they receive this summer does not reflect their ability will also be eligible to sit an exam in the autumn. Exam boards must offer the full suite of GCSE qualifications for examination in the autumn. Students will not have to sit exams in all subjects, but may take exams in as many subjects as they wish. If a student seeks to take exams in a particular subject they will be required to take all the exam papers relating to that subject. The format of exam papers will be the same as those usually offered in the summer.
