Module 1 Welcome Back

Dear Parents/Carers

Re: Module 1 – Welcome Back!

We hope you and your families have had an enjoyable summer. We look forward to welcoming students back to the Academy, please see below the return/start dates for academic year 2024/25 with a polite reminder of standards and expectations:

New Year 7 – We are looking forward to welcoming our new year 7 students on Monday 2 September.  The side gate will be open from 8.10am, so that students can enter the site. Year 7 students will attend a short assembly and will be informed of their tutor group and meet their tutor.  No PE kit is required until this first appears on your child’s timetable.

Year 7 students should bring a packed lunch until we have text you to say that the process of taking your son’s/daughter’s biometric finger image to set up ParentPay accounts is complete.

All other year groups return on Tuesday 3 September 2024:  Period 1 on Tuesday 3 September will be tutor time.

Attendance & Punctuality

Please be reminded, in the event your child is too unwell to attend please contact the school on 01322 272111  and press the option for your child’s college, or email admin@wilmingtonacademy.org.uk and include your child’s full name, year group and college with a brief description of the reason for absence.  This procedure should be followed every morning if your child is too unwell to attend.  It is important that students are in school every day and this procedure must be followed to ensure that all absences are authorised.

The site opens from 8.05am for students. Students should arrive by 8.20am each day to allow plenty of time for them to get to their first lesson which starts at 8.30am.  Students who are late to school without a valid reason will serve a late gate detention.  Persistent lateness to school will result in further sanctions, in line with our behaviour policy

Uniform & Equipment

Please take time over the next few days to ensure that your child has the correct uniform and equipment (please refer to the academy website for a full list of uniform and equipment) to minimise any potential disruption on their return.  Please would you ensure that this is marked with your child’s name:

  • Black Trousers or Skirt: skirts must be knee length and must not be rolled
  • Black blazer with Jupiter/Apollo/Minerva College badge as appropriate
  • College tie
  • Plain white shirt/blouse
  • Flat black shoes (trainers are not permitted)
  • PE top in college colour
  • Black shorts: Football shorts, black leggings or black (knee length) cycling  shorts – hot-pant style shorts are not permitted
  • A refillable water bottle

Students are not permitted to wear false eyelashes or nails to school, please ensure that these are removed before your child returns.  Facial piercings, such as nose studs are also not permitted.  Jewellery, apart from one pair of stud earrings, must not be worn. Please note: any breach of uniform that cannot be corrected, or the student refuses to correct, will result in them work in college isolation until their uniform is as listed in the behaviour policy.

Mobile phones, earpods and smart watches are not permitted to be used during the school day and will be confiscated if seen whilst on site. A parent/carer will need to collect these from the main reception. A polite reminder that electric scooters are also not permitted on the academy site.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any further information at admin@wilmingtonacademy.org.uk

Yours faithfully

Mrs S Goodall | Acting Principal
