Dear Parent/Carer

Wilmington Academy supports Anti-Bullying Week: 13-17 November 2023

As part of the academy’s zero tolerance to bullying, both students and staff have been invited to take part in a series of events in order to raise awareness of and counter the harm and hurt that bullying causes as part of National Anti-Bullying Week, which runs from Monday 13 November to Friday 17 November 2023.

The theme of this year’s event is ‘make some noise’, with the Anti-Bullying Association’s call to action being:

“Too often, we are silent when we see bullying take place, silent about the hurt bullying causes, and silent when we hear bullying dismissed as ‘just banter’. It doesn’t have to be this way. Of course, we won’t like everyone and we don’t always agree, but we can choose respect and unity.

This Anti-Bullying Week let’s come together to have discussions about what bullying means to us, how banter can turn into something more hurtful, and what we can do to stop bullying. Together, we can make a difference and take a stand against bullying. From the playground to Parliament, and from our phones to our homes, let’s make a noise about bullying.”

Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to participate in anti-bullying themed assemblies, tutor sessions, and English lessons. Our week will come to an end with Odd Socks Day on Friday 17 November, where staff and students will be encouraged to wear odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique.

We would like to thank parents, carers, students, and staff in advance for their help in supporting this initiative, which seeks to raise awareness, we can help bring an end to bullying, whether in person or online.

Yours faithfully
